pgm554!NICE job on the Fibes Crystalite! ... but unfortunately your video link was broken/invalid. You could of course try again!Tommyp

It works out on the YT site.

Might be a problem with YT not caching the video yet.

One more time

pgm554!

Good to go now! :) Interesting to hear just how little the cast hoops "dry up" the drum ... I was expecting a lot more actually, and especially so coupled with a PS4 coated on the batter. But no! ... still extremely responsive and articulate with that "ice cold lettuce" crispness Fibes is/was known for. Very nice! I've been playing/gigging my 1973 Fibes SFT690/Black FiVel snare for a while now, and have it set up with PureSound vintage Fibes SFT wires which give it a slightly "darker" note with the standard Fibes flanged hoops. Still has ALL the articulation and cut of course! The rim shot is especially impressive! Here's a pic ...

I'm working on retrofitting the throws,I had a replacement with a good arm,but the screw holes for it are round instead of square,so the original bolts are not an exact fit.

The snares themselves look to be an earlierversion as the snare slots are shorter than the newer models.

The acrylic and chrome are in pretty good shape, some pitting on the butt plate and one lug casing is flaking.

Here's a WTF price on a Fibes acrylic snare on Ebay right now.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-Rare-1971-CF-Martin-Fibes-5-5X14-Clear-Acylic-Snare-Drum-Famous-SFT-Throw-/182564661122?hash=item2a81b3a782:g:yvMAAOSwhvFZD4Xf

If he can get that pricing,it would almost make me think about flipping mine.(almost)

WTF asking price is correct! WAY HIGH on that, and he won't get it. However!, as I'm fond of saying, all it takes is that ONE guy. But in this case, he's probably looking for the best offer option, as he does have that available. He won't get that price though!

i don't remember that style of internal muffler on those drums.

I wonder if it is an add on?

Correct! That's a Gretsch muffler, and added after the fact by the owner. Fibes never put tone controls/mufflers on any of their drums from day one. They were never offered or even available! Every time we see one on a Fibes snare drum, it was added later. Bob Grauso saw no need for them! It DOES devalue it IMHO, strictly as a "collectible" I mean .. and .. makes the asking price even more ludicrous! Otherwise, it is very clean, as is yours!

FYI,

I noticed that at one point you were looking for a replacement strainer for a Fibes snare.

Here's a heads up .it looks as if they made different strainers of varying sizes.

I was having snare buzz issues on the replacement throw and was using shims to correct for length.

Here is a photo comparison
