Need help to ID vintage zildjians

Hello, I came across two cymbals and was hoping someone here could help me date them. One is 18" the other 20". From the bit of research i did i think the 18 might be a type 1 trans stamp and the 20 a late 60's ,but would like advice. http://imgur.com/a/TT2o5 I haven't weighed them yet as i do not have a scale. the 18" stamp is about 1 1/8 inch and the 20 is approx 1 1/2. Also should i clean these? or are they more desirable if i let them be? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks

Welcome Johnzo

I agree with your identifications, for what it's worth. :2Cents:

As far as cleaning goes I think it's fine to use soap and water rubbing lightly with a soft cloth (cleaning). The next step of polishing is something I wouldn't recommend although there are others who are in favor of polishing old cymbals to make then shine like new. It's personal choice, and opinions vary.

Your 20" hasn't been over cleaned and still has the model (RIDE) and weight designation (MED-HEAVY) ink on it. If you do get a chance to weigh it I'd love to know the weight for my records. I'd also love to have permission to use your ink photo for my forthcoming page on ink styles found on pre 70s cymbals. Older cymbals often have the ink removed so a weight for one with model and weight class ink remaining is always helpful to document how the weights changed over the production eras.

Wow thanks for the reply, it was really informative. I don't know too much about this stuff because i am not a drummer (guitarist). So it is nice to have another opinion. You are more than welcome to use the photos and i can take more if needed. Your gonna laugh when you find out how much i paid for these....6$ each. Found at goodwill in really nice shape. Also i will let you know on the weights as soon as i figure that out. I assume it will be useful for potential buyers as well.

That's a bargain and a half! You can see the expected prices for these via the link in my signature. And thanks for permission to use the photo.

As Zenstat said clean with mild soap and water. If you want to shine them up beyond that, that's your business, but i personally would never do that. If a cymbal took 50 or 60 years to get its beautiful patina naturally, who am I to take it off to make a cymbal shiny .
