Orange drums?

I remember seeing some in Europe in the 70s, not bad looking. I've never heard them, though. Those floor tom legs are fairly unique!

Thanks for the info guys, it's all very interesting and new to me. The lugs do remind one of a racing bicycle in a way. Having played in bands for 40 years now, I've seen countless Orange amps. I was involved in the local music scene for most of the '70s, and I never heard of them. I've learned so much here. I never knew Vox branded drums until I joined the forum. It's all fascinating.

Thanks again.

Steve Upton of Wishbone Ash played Orange or Capelle drums. The bass and guitar players used Orange amps, too.

I saw them in the early 70's. I do remember being impressed with the drum sound.

Wishbone Ash - that's a band you don't hear much about anymore. Argus I think was the album that I knew well. I've got it on CD or on my computer somewhere. I should give it a listen. Maybe Orange drums were used on that record.

Now I'll be on the lookout for an Orange snare. I don't have the room to collect kits (although I have 3), but I've got 20+ snares, and have run out of room on a four-tiered snare rack. I'll have to get another it looks like. There are at least 3 or 4 snares on my bucket list, and something cool always manages to pop up from time-to-time.

Thanks again for all the info and comments. Much appreciated. It really is worthwhile to check out the Memorabilia Gallery. There's some really cool stuff there. I also learned of drumarchive.com in another thread. Also a fascinating place.

With the first Orange kit I had (24x14, 13x8, 14x10, 18x16), I had a 14x5" snare too.

It had a quite heavy steel shell with a beautifully made simple strainer system. The wires were identical to Pearl Jupiter wires, so were obtainable from PureSound - at a price....

Unlike the other french company - ASBA - the Capelle snares featured normal, folded bearing edges.

Well,

i think that Orange was originaly from England and Jacques Capelle was the dealer for France (Amps & drums).

In the mid 70's Capelle bought the Orange company (at least the drums departement) and later built drums in france under the name of Orange. Later become Capelle drums.

The Turbo models are good exemple cause they was sold under the name of Orange Turbo and later Capelle Turbo.

(and they're is model named Orange Capelle)

The Capelle company had a parallel (family)business of furnitures, So they knew the woods very well.

And they made very good drums kit, with a lot of imagination.

This good company stops few years ago, after been very activate during the last 3 decades.

I think - but canĀ“t document it right now - that Jacques made drums under the Capelle banner before he made drums for Orange.

All Orange drums was made by Jacques.

hello very new to the forum.

I have a set of Orange/Capelle drums. In a chocolate brown colour. I bought them in a car boot sale about 15 yrs ago and have been my main kit ever since, they sound fantastic. Unfortunately the 13" tom has very bad bearing edges. The chrome through out is a bit pitted but I use it all the time.

What I'm after if anyone can help is another 16" or 18" floor tom.

Im resurrecting Lazarus here but I thought why not giving it a try: I'd trade a 3 pc Ludwig White marine pearl B/O badge set with consolette for an Orange set if anyone here has one. My set is 13", 16", 22. I can include a snare if the Orange set comes with one too.

I have 2 Orange Hi Hat Stands.

At the time, they were the Cadillac of Hi-hats.

Fasteners were like the ones on bicycles.

Capelle made some great hardware.

Let me know if anyone needs a hat stand for their Orange Kit.

Cappelle also made a BD pedal with tubes that attached to the top and bottom of BD hoop.

Jerry Jenkins said he always wanted one.

So I found one on the bay and gave it to him.
