Yes, NOT vintage i know :D but i need some info.
Just a few weeks ago, I had thought about selling my vintage Yamaha kit to purchase the new Ludwig Club Date drums that came out last year in the more compact "Downbeat" sizes.. But my instinct tells me to keep the Yamaha, and just go for a nice gigging kit in the same sizes that doesn't break the bank, and can be a good workhorse kit without worrying too much about having anything happen to them..
So, in my quest to find a decent, modern, semi-pro gigging of great value and quality in the elusive "downbeat" sizes, i came across this very nice Ludwig Epic series kit.. Sizes are 10-12-14-20 in what looks to be a stunning cherry sunburst fade (not sure if that's the actual name of finish)..It comes with crummy beginner brass cymbals, and cheap hardware, except for the actual double tom holder and it's base, which is obviously Ludwig.. I don't know too much about the Epic series, except that they're a 6 ply maple/birch hybrid, are thin, lightweight shells (perfect for gigging, and easy on the back !), but that's about it..
I checked some forums out on this series and most, if not all were positive personal reviews and accounts on this now discontinued series that was offered by Ludwig less than a decade ago..I especially like the "smokey chrome" lugs and rims, (Ludwig also offered a very nice "vintage bronze" finish on the hardware as well).. and overall, it seems like a very good gigging kit.. From what i've researched on the internet, the bass drums had 10 lugs, as does this one..
Seller says his is a 20" kick, but when i checked on the internet, the Epic 20" kicks have 8 lugs.. Now my question is, did Ludwig make both 8 and 10 lug bass drums in the 20" size in this series, or is the seller mistaken ?..From what i can tell in the pics, the sizes he states look to be accurate..Does anyone else think these are downbeat sizes ?
Any and all thoughts are appreciated..
Cheers,
Rob
