An MIJ Badge I've never seen before-not listed on VDG Either..........

Loading...

Greetings,

This showed up locally on Craigslist. I've seen that lug style before, but not the badge or brand name before. I checked the Vintage Drum Guide "Sticky" at the top of this main page to check to see if the badge or name was listed and it is not. Anyone know how to get it added to Vintage Drum Guide? Really cool badge, I think.

I saved a few pictures for posterity's sake:

Enjoy!

I've never seen the Custum badge, either! Your drum must be made by Pearl, as evidenced by the lugs. Nice looking drum!

Did you buy it? Man, I could use that drum...By the way, I have seen a "Kustum" badge with a "K", not a "C".

Just picked up a new (well... obviously old) silver sparkle kit with the Custum badge on the kick and all three toms. The kit also came with some older hardware (14" unmarked (very thin) hi-hats w/ stand, 16" crash, 18" ride, Ludwig cymbal stands, Pearl speed pedal). The one name I can find on the cymbals is a 16" crash (?) marked Camber. I know there are some low end Canadian cambers, but the German ones are supposed to be better, and this one actually says "West Germany" so by definition it must be older than 1990. I've seen Cambers with the name painted on and with "W. Germany" (just the initial), but this one is actually engraved and "west" is spelled out. I assume that means it's older.

The kit is in great condition, but there are no bottom hoops, and no back hoop on the kick. I assume they originally had resonant hoops since there are lugs present.

I haven't been able to find much information on the brand. I will note that I did find a newspaper advertisement from a 1971 Baltimore Sun that advertised a Custum Kit for $99.95 at Music House.

It seems like this kit may have been used as a jazz kit. The sound is really mellow (but I like it), and I'm thinking about using it for a second studio kit (with a much different sound than the rock kit I've currently got set up).

I love the off-set (not centered, shifted to the left) tom arms, and I have to admit, I'm pretty giddy about the silver sparkle. My older cousin had a sparkle kit, and I've wanted one since I was a kid. But if it's "significant" and somebody is interested, I would rather it be appreciated by someone in the know.

I'll have to check my list, that may have been on it. If not, it's being added now. Great find!
