Not Your Typical Zoomatic Question

Loading...

Hi Folks:

I have a Slingerland Sound King Gene Krupa COB. Lucky for me the Zoomatic is in intact and works fine. Here's the problem: the adjustment knob on the Zoomatic slips (loosens up) as I play it. I tighten it a half turn or so and it's fine for another ten minutes or so. Initially I though it was the snare cord stretching so I decided to mark the knob with a piece of tape. Lo and behold, the position of the tape rotates as the drum is played. Any ideas on how I can prevent the knob from turning? PS: the rubber washer that sit in between the knob and the throw housing is intact but does not provide enough friction to stop the thing from turning.

Thanks, peace

Steve

Certainly sounds as if the "Add A Spring" modification may be needed in this case.

Note that the pressed washer (which pretty much holds the strainer together).. will need to be removed to do the mod. It is usually then not re-useable.

However the pressed washer can be replaced on reassembly by an E or G clip..

Cheers

John

Hmm, interesting. I did not realize I was supposed to remove the old washer (it wasn't cracked or anything, just loose) I just added a new flat washer and a lug spring on top of the old washer. Maybe mine wasn't that bad to start with? Anyway, all I know is it holds fine now. Good info on here guys, learning more every day!
