Even trade ?

So, i've decided to possibly sell or trade my very rare, vintage Blue Label Paiste Formula 602 15" medium hi hats, that are in almost mint condition. I say almost only because the top cymbal stamp ink has some fading, but still completely visible, while the bottom looks like it was just taken out of the Paiste vault, with new bright ink stamp, and zero issues.

But sadly, i'm finding them a little too "soft/buttery" for my taste, as they're quite light for medium weight hats. I need something that's bright, warm and cuts through without being overbearing or too bright..

The only solution i see is a 2002 vintage sound edge..Ideally i'd prefer a 14", but i did find a vintage black label in 15", which are the coveted "Bonham" or classic rock hi hats, on my local classifieds. I was going to offer the seller to trade his hats with mine, plus an extra $150 on mine.

From what i've seen recently on the net, my hats are in the $450-600 range, whereas his 2002 15" Black labels are going for just about the same price. So my question is to my fellow Paiste collectors and users is this--Do you think that a trade plus $150 for my hats in trade for his is an even trade ? I doubt that he'll accept my offer, but i may just sell it to my local shop which has begun taking in used high end gear..

Any thought and opinions are appreciated !!

Cheers,

Rob

Hey Rob,

There are many different avenues for you to explore. Do what you think is best regarding your existing hats. I do however have one, generalized tip for you:

I know you are a Paiste guy, but there are tons of great sounding Hi-Hats out there that aren't Paiste. Don't get me wrong, I like Paiste cymbals and I have several in my collection, but just focusing on one brand is very limiting. If you want them for collection purposes, then I can understand that. Just try to think outside the Paiste box some, and who knows, that sound in your head might actually be Sabian, or Zildjian, or Meinl, or Wuhan, or Istanbul, or Bosphorus, Or Amedia, or Dream or.............................

Thanks for the reply vyacheslav ! I see your point in regards to choosing one's particular "sound", but if i did choose to try something else, i'm afraid it wouldn't blend nicely with the rest of my vintage Paiste cymbals. I may be a little OCD when it comes to my sound, and would prefer to have a set of cymbals that match, not necessarily in series, but in regards to company.. However, if i did have a choice (my way of saying if i had money ;)) I think the Sabian Artisan Line would be something i'd switch too, or K Zildjian..But for now, i'm going to stick with Paiste, just like the OCD/creature of habit that i am..:D

Btw, the guy with the 15" vintage 2002 SE hats never responded

Cheers,

Rob
