Hey Guys.....I was just about to purchase a 1976 Coliseum chrome over wood snare drum. The serial number is #2089490, blue/olive badge rounded corners. 1979 ends at 201xxxx on the identification chart. Panic has set in........some help please!?

My guess would be '79sh.

Richard Gier's Ludwig Drums Serial Number Dating Guide is the best source to date Ludwigs, in my opinion.

That serial number puts the drum in 1979/1980...

I see the drum you are considering and it looks to be in good shape...It`s a fair price they are asking, even with the exchange rate...

Coliseum snares are in a class all their own...They are cannons, but, can be tuned quite sensitive...

My coliseum is signed inside by William Ludwig II...

Cheers

Its a shame because I'm a stickler for the era. A 76' is much more appealing than an 80's snare, personally speaking.

I'd be really surprised to see a pointy badged Coliseum or one from 76. I thought they first came out in 79 or 80 or even early 80s.

The coliseum is a cannon and it can be really cranked.

I did purchase it. I paid $350 for it. I really dig the chrome over wood finish. They usually seem to come in black. Although, I do wonder....how can you tell if it's an authentic Coliseum snare? Thanks for the input.:)
