Magnets don`t stick to ferro snares either. That throw don`t belong on a Teardrop shell but it`s there and it`s factory.

Is it heavy ?

Ferro snares are seamless, drawn out of a doughnut disk.

It's not super heavy. Compared to a 70s 5x14 Ferro-Manganese I have, this snare is lighter. It just seems "off". The parts are there, but the shell is thinner than expected. I bought it off of "FeeBay" years ago and the seller never really said it was a Sonor. Thank for asking on the Sonor Museum site!

I see the connection to a 444, but back then as in most drum factories, they innovated wherever needed, and still do I believe. When I get my 426,s I, ll put up here to critique. Lots of strange things went on with Sonor back then!

From wayne

I see the connection to a 444, but back then as in most drum factories, they innovated wherever needed, and still do I believe. When I get my 426,s I, ll put up here to critique. Lots of strange things went on with Sonor back then!

It`s explainable:

In 1970 SONOR just got done spending a fortune on suing Japan for stencil brands. SONOR was the only company to stay in it to the end. It was extremely expensive and left practically nothing in the bank. SONOR created budget lines that would sell quick. They used everything and anything and shoved it out the door, By 75, they had recovered enough to open another top of the line drum series. Those were the Phonic series and they sold like hot cakes.

This is why in the early 70`s, you saw a little bit of everything.

That strainer was made by Tromsa but also used on Sonor Action and Swinger Snares.

The drum is on the Bay, the outside seam appears lapped after repairs. It`ll be out of round and the diameter has changed.
