Dark Chrome Wrap

Loading...

Hello all!!

Just wondering if anyone would have any idea if that dark chrome finish (ala Slingerland) is available anywhere as a wrap?

There are many wrap suppliers that sell the regular "mirror" chrome, but don't see any of the darker chrome anywhere.

Does anyone have any idea if it exists and/or where?

Thanks very much.

It's an old trick, but if you take black (or very dark grey) window tinting (20%) and wrap it around your mirror chrome shell...you'll end up with a very convincing "Black Chrome" look to your drum.

Of course, the condition of the drum (pitting, deep scratches and dents, and surface rust) make a considerable difference in the way the window tinting works and looks.

On a brand new mirror chrome shell, "window-tinting" it is as close to a mint condition Slingerland Black Chrome shell that you can get.

Thanks very much Tascam,

Never heard that one before. Very cool trick!

Drummers certainly are the most ingenious of all musicians.

Thanks again!

Absolutely my pleasure sharing this little tip! I actually found a very economical "Cling Wrap" window tint (20%) at Walmart for under $25 US, that had enough material to do two 14X24 inch bass drums, as well as one 14X22 bass drum. I believe the dimensions of the "Cling Wrap" material is 30" X 78".

It was located in the automotive section of the store, by all the third party auto add-ons (LED Dash lights, cell phone holders, etc.)

I also brought my Chrome Slingerland shells into a car window tint dealer, and asked him how much to apply the cling wrap to my bass drum shells with a nice tight fit, with no bubbles. After he grasped what I was talking about...he did a fabulous job of wrap-ping all 3 of my mirror chrome slingerland shells for only....and get this......$15 US. That's $5 per drum!!!

I hope this helps you out!

I think "mcjnic" or "Jaye" has an outlet, and a really cool chart, for hard to find wraps. And they can usually get you in touch with the right guys. Also, drummaker.com may be able to make it for you under their ColorWraps program. These would be the way to go if you are wanting to do a complete, correct re-wrap. Using the window tint method will ultimately be less, but they would be subject to scarring, ripping and tearing every time you move them.

Hello and thank you Tascam, Jonnistix and Latzanimal for all the info.

I didn't see any dark chrome wrap on that site you sent me Latzanimal, sorry I just don't see it if it's there.

That's a really great tip Tascam, going to a pro to get it done, wouldn't have thought they would even do that.

Jonnistix, I'm going to contact Mcjnic and Jaye and ask them where this outlet is.

Thanks very much to all! Really appreciate it.

You're welcome..

I believe I had to specifically ask him for samples of the dark chrome. He did say the "monster Energy drink" kit was done in a black chrome of sorts...
