Replacement "Strap Guides" on Trap Cases?

Loading...

Greetings,

I have several of these vintage trap cases. One I acquired recently is missing all but one of the "strap guides" on it. They are what the strap passes through and keeps the straps "in line" (see the photo, there are four of them in the photo, each strap goes through two of them).

The guides have simply broken off on my case; the rivets are still there. I can drill out the rivets and replace them with screws and nuts. I was wondering what would be good as replacements for these guides. Anybody have and experience with them?

I was thinking along the lines of gutter/eaves trough clips (that hold gutters tight to vertical walls), and although they are the same shape, they would be too big. I was also thinking of conduit clips (that hold metal or PVC electrical conduit tight to walls etc.) They would be the right size, but are rounded and not flat. The space between the existing holes from the old clips is 2.5". The straps that pass through the guides are 1.5" wide.

Maybe some type of small drawer handle or small drawer pull would work? I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks for your help!

So could anyone consider posing such a question anywhere else but here..

If you posted this question to a guitarist's forum there would be mental breakdowns happening.... Drummers seem to deal with this creative inspiration stuff so much better..

First thing I thought of was the small cupboard door handles too.. another thing would be some decent leather from an old belt or boot leather.. Washers and rivets will fix these to the case.

Or just permanently rivet the straps themselves to the case at appropriate positions

Cheers

John

I think the first ones were leather.

Like on my old cases.

Those guides are easy to repair. Buy a leather belt wide enough to replace the side of the guide. Cut Belt into about 3 1/2 pieces. Remove the old Rivets from case and replace them with new steel ones. These are sold in any hardware and replace rivets with Rivet gun. there are tool need. Make sure you get steel rivets the also come in aluminum and you do not want these

That's a good suggestion, thanks. I think instead of using rivets and a rivet gun, I will use small screws and nuts in the existing rivet holes. I'm going to check my local thrift store for a good, wide leather belt I can use.
