As was the guy from Taj Mahal. Although I agree that it was played to a track but vocals live, Toni Iommi was holding a slide... remember he was in Jethro Tull for a short period

I thought so too...but I think he was mimicking playing slide. I certainly didn't see it. But I didn't watch uber closely.

I respectively disagree. Although the Beatles could have easily played Yer Blues and they would have been the knock out- the Who ruled the rock 'n roll circus in my opinion.

I agree. The Who were outstanding at that show. I didn't even know about them there till recently.

I believe the Who, the Dirty Mac (clapton, lennon, mitchell, etc), and the Stones were the only ones who played live and not to a track (miming). The Who blew everyone away, even the Stones, thats why the Stones shelved it for so long. Point of interest here, the Stones did a couple of songs on the Circus that they hadn't released on record yet......anyone car to name them? (I know which ones, I'm just checking if anyone else does :D )

Unfortunately the internet and google takes the fun out of this...but I will try to keep it old school and not research but go off of recollection.

I KNOW they played Jumping Jack Flash as Brian Jones--my true great hero in music (I still only play a 1961 green Gretsch Anniversary guitar live) --looked about ready to die. Sympathy for the Devil as well.

I think that was why it took so long for that to be released, The Stones were ****ed because The Who upstaged them.

Mitch Mitchell was playing Charlie Watts kit that day for that session.....

Mitch played Premier for much of his career with Jimi... but I believe he switched to Gretsch around 1969 or so. He's playing a black double bass Gretsch kit in the 1970 Isle of Wight video, and I think (though I'm not certain) he played a Gretsch kit at Woodstock. Anyone remember?

Kits:
1950s Gretsch Name Band in Midnight Blue Pearl (13/16/22/14sn)
1965/66 Ludwig Club Dates rewrapped in Black Diamond Pearl (12/15/20)

he also played on Luddy kits too it looks like he had a set of black panthers in this 69 concert [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2TSpusRV-8[/ame] you can see in the footage they have that flat finish just like panthers did.
