Vintage k zildjian 13" hi hats

Loading...

Hi everyone just picked these old tatty zildjians up with an old premier dominion double snare snare drum. I know all the info on the snare drum but was wondering about any info on the hi hats. These are the only pics as ive yet to pic them up. I was wondering would these hi hats look better buffed and polished or left alone. They will be for sale just need the info to sell them..........Thanks sean

If you are planning to sell them, they will have more value if you DON'T clean them.

That is a marvelous hi hat set - please post your for-sale info here. FYI, prospective buyers will want to know what is the weight of each cymbal.

I could do with dates for both cymbals. Maybe put together over the years..still a great find wonder how much i will get for this pair that aint gonna get any cleaning. Will the fact both cymbals are stamped different affect price etc etc..

The two cymbals are manufactured by two different companies in two different countries. Both companies have Zildjian in the name.

K Zildjian (Turkey): That looks like one of the early (pre 1930s?) K Zildjian Constantinople Trade Mark versions, but I can't see the image well enough to say much more. It might be like this trademark version and when you hold your cymbal in your hand you might be able to match up all the parts:

A Zildjian (U.S.A.): That's a Pre Trans Stamp. Documented as Pre Trans Stamp Combo A on my site:

and one of a number of combinations. The years aren't firmly established but mid 40s and earlier. Avedis Zildjian started in 1929. This is the third or fourth example of one with a Premier stamp I've recorded. Before Avedis Zildjian was on the scene, the Premier catalogs offered cymbals from K Zildjian and I've also recorded one of those with the Premier stamp. It looks like Avedis Zildjian talked Premier into switching suppliers, although the war might have had a hand in it as well. Obviously supply lines were in a state of flux. I'm sure Bill Hartrick has all this info at his fingertips. It's just a question of whether he chooses to put his fingers on his computer keyboard.

On pricing, I haven't got much data on 13" Turkish made K Zildjian cymbals:

http://black.net.nz/old-k/old-k-prices.html#13

and even less on 13" Avedis Zildjian cymbals:

black.net.nz/avedis/avedis-prices.html

because I still haven't done the 15" and smaller ones. And both of those analyses are a year out of date. I've got another year's worth of data to add in. Based on a quick database retrieval to end Jan 2017, I'd say a single 13" A Zildjian from before the 1960s would be expected to sell in the range $50-75 based on a sample of 20. But that's at auction in the USA. Prices are different in the UK. A similar retrieval on 13" K Zildjians from Turkey based on up to date data suggests $180-$280 is the likely range, based on a smaller sample of about 11.

Thanks for that info once again very informative. The cymbals came with an old early thirties premier dominion snare drum. Im looking forward to picking them up. I will post more accurate and high resolution pics for you. I suppose the K zildjian was on its own then some where a couple of years down the line the A zildjian was paired up as high hats. Ive never done it on here but i think a sound file of these hi hats will be a great idea. I will be selling these but would not have a clue as to how much id even get for the pair. I certainly wont split them up............Thanks for info .sean

I've added up to date individual pricing for them from my database, but I didn't talk about a price for the pair versus as individual cymbals. And again, my pricing info doesn't narrow down the expected price to just a few dollars because there are so many factors involved.

Ah - indeed, one is an Avedis and one is an old K constantinople.

So they aren't a factory matched pair, although they still might sound good together.

The K is likely to be more valuable, although the Premier stamp will be interesting to some people as it is not common. Both are quite old.

Several 13" K's like this one have sold on eBay, you can get an idea of prices by searching. The Premier is harder to estimate. Would likely have been much more valuable if both were Ks.

Still shouldn't clean.

Does a Premier stamp on an old K Con increase its value then? I picked up a 12" type 3 stamp that has this. Sadly the top has been buffed up. I got it to pair with a K OS IIIb.
