Nice work, Tommy! I especially like your floor tom rolls at the end! Cool cymbal work too! My eyes are not the best but, do you hold your sticks in a matched grip? I'm just wondering because from what I've been lead to believe, most jazz and swing drummers use the traditional grip. Just curious. Even though I play rock, I learned the traditional grip many years ago. I try the matched grip occasionally but, it just doesn't feel right for me. Anyway, thanks for giving us all a personal glimpse of you and your talent. Now we can put a face to our "boss" and associate talent with the name! Thank you! Brian

Brian!

That is a question I am asked a lot actually!, because ... generally speaking, this style music is most associated with jazz and drummers using traditional grip. I actually play both as I was taught traditional and only started incorporating matched grip when I was playing "heavier" funk/R&B in the late 70's. So now, depending on what I need to do with the music, I alter my grip. I can play everything with match equal to traditional .. except .. for clean press .. buzz .. and open double stroke rolls. I always switch back to traditional grip for that. Otherwise, I cover most all of it with match. Brushes are the same discipline ... I use both! THANKS for all the comments Brian!

Gary!Indeed!, not WMP, but that's because Fibes never offered WMP. Their standard wraps were all metal during this era, and they offered: Chrome over Fiberglass (COF) ... Antique Brass ... and Antique Copper. When Buddy played his full Fibes set in 1967, they were finished in COF. He only played them for about 6 months in the back part of 1967, then hooked on with Slingerland in 1968. So, these are an authentic era/build Fibes Buddy Rich set! I've been gigging these for about a year now. I finished the restoration last April actually. These are RARE in this build/year, as they are 1st generation Bob Grauso built Fibes, and in Buddy's sizes and configuration. Buddy's Fibes, as are these, were built 3 years prior to CFMartin taking over the company/production in 1970. THANKS for the kind words and comments Gary! :)Tommyp

Thanks so much for the history lesson, Tommy! I appreciate it. Apparently you can teach old dogs new tricks (lol). Beautiful kit!

Thanks for the info on grips, Tommy! I've been trying to experiment with the matched grip for the last few months on some tunes. I think I may be slightly faster but, it just feels uncomfortable to me at this point. I'll keep plugging away though. Much better to be able to use both. Thanks again.

THANK YOU for all the very nice comments! So, to address them, in order:

idrum4fun/Mark!

THANKS Mark!, and certainly glad you did NOT turn to stone! :) Still, Id always rather look at the drums than myself!

OldSchool/Gary!

THANKS again Gary ... you are too kind!

Powertone/Jeff!

THANKS Jeff! Not Rogers in this case, but still Buddy! Hey, we have to chat! :)

salty 1322/Brian!

Greatly appreciate ALL the nice comments Brian. THANKS!

larryz!

You are much too kind Larry!, but I completely agree on the drums! :) Such a pleasure to play!, and I enjoyed the restoration too for that matter. It was intensive though. Real chromed steel is tough to get to "move" when working on scratches, etc. Then there were all the fasteners, etc ... THANKS again!

David!

He was my 1st roadie/tech, but the suit got to be a bit much though, so I had to let him go. I then hired this guy, and he's been with me ever since! And, still NO fingerprints! :)
