From O-Lugs

I remember John Guerin from the old Tom Scott and the L.A. Express albums (thats right...vinyl!) Great player.

Me and a friend were listening to "Tom Cat" (1974) awhile ago and the playing/groove is really, really fine.

The drum miking was comical tho. It was in that time where they had a zillion mics on the drums, each tom had a 421 rammed inside and several boxes of Kotex taped to the heads. That was that era.

It seemed like everyone was, by both the drum sound and the playing trying to, without knowing it, sound like a Linndrum years before they came out. Larry Nash on keys is tremendous and to me who I noticed most. Great cover art, an album that at the time everyone I knew was into but no one talks about now.

It's, to me, pretty much "how to play drums right". We used to play several tunes off of the album.

here's some samples:

And yes! Ludwig-dude the "Goldfinger" theme (if that's what you meant) maybe does take the cake. The guy that played Oddjob lived down the street from me and I used to follow him into town years ago a lot on my way to gigs.
