Slingerland wmp and Novus

Picked up my new Slingies, 20,12 14 in wmp that has "mellowed". Pulled off a couple lugs and found that it is more yellow under the lugs then the rest of the shell. I bought these sight unseen and was a little dissapointed at how "mellow" they were. After hitting part of the shell with Novus#2 I was amazed at how well that stuff works. Will Novus #3 take out deeper scratches? This kit was pretty grungy and after using the novus on a small area it seems like the shells are lightening up. Maybe it was all the years collecting dust and dirt but they really look lighter. Anyone have the same results?

I cannot tell you about this product, however I can tell you that almost anything we use today is going to remove a lot of "gunk" from our old friends' hides. If this kit spent a long time on the road in honky-tonks and in the home of smokers, you are going to see a lot of that melt away to reveal much lighter shades. For some wraps, they just don't absorb nicotine and tar as much as others. I have seen some wraps go almost white with a good cleaning, and they lived in the home of a smoker, while others just come "clean". My younger brother obtained some white Pearls in the early 80's that came from a non-smoking house, and after only two years in our house, they had yellowed, never to see white again.

Well I just went for it and picked up a bottle of Novus#3. Dosen't take out deep scratches but will take some out that #2 wont. All in all I am quite pleased with how this kit is turning out. Mahogany bass drum with Sept. 62 stamped inside and the rack and floor tom are maple with Oct. 64 stamps. I think this kit must have come as a set. I will post pics when I get it finished. This is the first time I ever detailed a kit to this extreme, it is a lot of work!

A lot of work indeed! I am doing a Japanese kit, and it is kicking my buttocks. Only because I insist on redoing the same drum because after reading along, I realize DOH I forgot to wrap the springs, or wax the edges, or something silly. All in all, this little kit is really beginning to take on a rather sweet voice. And the single ply snare I picked up and put back together (a real 60's stencil snare that is single ply, and still lives, reborn if you will. I had to re-glue the ring on the top side) It is loud and proud, tunes top to bottom as well!
