year of Fibes drums

Loading...

I bought a clear Fibes kit on ebay a few years back and restored them... they are AWESOME and I use them all the time! The seller didn't know what year they are, I'm guessing late 60s to early 70s... but its really just a guess. Is there any way I can find out what year they are, or a site I can go to?

I'll be in Austin next week... maybe I should just show up there in person!

Hello!

I have researched the complete Fibes timeline and have all that info! Fibes are "dated" by their badges actually ... so ... I need to see what badges you have on your drums. I have put up dating info on the FB Fibes page a few times now, but will be able to show you here. I'll attach all FOUR Fibes badges with their dates, as follows:

Badge1 ..... 1965

Badge2 ..... 1968

Badge3 ..... 1970

Badge4 ..... 1975

The fourth Fibes badge has been seen as EARLY as 1974, but for the most part, it really came into prominence in 1975. These badges are all off Fibes drums that I own/play! These do NOT include Corder, Darwin, or even Fibes Austin, as none of those were Fibes originals. Even under CFMartin ownership in 1970, Bob Grauso was still involved!

I had a bass drum and floor tom with the badge shown in the fourth picture. I still have the sales receipt dated August, 1973.

Stepnose!

That's early for that badge ... but not impossible! Remember, I said it came into PROMINENCE in 1975, as there are always exceptions! Here's a Pic of me and my first Fibes set of Crystalite clear acrylics bought NEW in late 1973/74. Look at the badge on the 8X12 rack tom ... again, there are always exceptions! :)

That's a great photo!

I'm curious about the tall L-arm holding the tom, don't think I've seen one like that

GAR!

Certainly period what with the Dashiki's I'll tell ya! :) Anyway... the tom arm is/was the stock Fibes tom mount at the time. They called it the Fibes UniBall, and the arm/post was nothing more than a pretty hefty Hex rod. Similar to Rogers, but much thicker. It had a generous length, which was a good thing for me as I'm 6'1', so I had it pretty much extended UP at full length. That Fibes Crystalite set was 14X20 ... 8X12 ... 16X16, and 5X14 Crystalite SFT690 snare drum. With the 20" bass drum I needed to get that 8x12 up, so the hex rod is pretty much at full extension.
