Today I installed an updated cable hub from Dixon. The bolt holes are of a bigger diameter to allow the two larger t-rods to anchor the cable to the cable hub in two places between two lock washers and two hard rubber washers. It is now impossible for the cable to jump off of the hub. The cable can still break, and they do occasionally, from what I've researched BUT, it can not move! I've been using it with the new beater and mount I constructed for about 30 minutes to some Van Morrison tunes. So far, so good! To be honest, we are leaving for Mexico in a couple of days and double bass pedals are going to be the last thing on my mind!!! I need a break before I even experiment on my vintage Tama double bass. Better have a few cold ones just to get my system lubricated for muchos cervezas!

Gibraltar makes a Cajon pedal that looks like it can mount to a Bass Drum too.

Maybe get two of these and put the pedals wherever you wish ??

Thanks for the input, Oddball. Much appreciated! Actually, the reason that I chose the Dixon Plus was because it could be mounted anywhere. At the time, I wasn't aware of any design flaws. Hopefully the up-dates will "cure" the problems. I'm not a double bass player. I use a DW-5000 and am quite happy with it. I just wanted to experiment a bit. I thought it might be interesting if when I went to my ride, for certain tunes, I could quickly switch from my hi-hat to another pedal Just for some accents. I don't think that a cajon pedal would be punchy enough for a primary pedal even with a "real" beater installed. It's been an interesting process so far but, it's not over yet! Okay, I'm back from my adopted homeland and ready to get back to making some music! Hopefully, on Sunday evening I'll see if this contraption works out! Remember please, that it's just an accent pedal. I do not intend to use it on every tune. With the modifications that Dixon made and my own experimenting, I'm relatively sure that a double bass can be employed using a flexible cable (bicycle brake cable). To make things a bit more "out of the box" type thinking, I'm going to mount the pedal to the front of my bass drum, near the regular mic. My Deep Kick mic is on the other side and shouldn't pick up much of anything, especially with the beater I am using. We'll see. Anyway, thank you for the interest, my friends.
