Ludwig clubdate tom mount question

Do any of you Club Date owners have a sustain problem when putting the 12" rack tom on to the factory bass drum/tom mount? I find that sometimes I can position it just right to get a little bit of sustain but most times the mount chokes the drum off.. I can even feel the vibration continue through the drum and into the bass pedal.

I was thinking about trying to install some thin rubber gaskets and placing them between the tom mount and the metal plates that attach to the bass drum. Has anyone tried this or have any other suggestions? I often play the set with the rack tom on a snare stand, equipped with Little Booty Shakers by TNR Products (those things work), but would like to eliminate the extra snare stand luggage..

I've had the same concern..Tried the snare std option..

I like it better, but the Tom can't be to snug, otherwise the same thing happens..

My best option so far is to R.I.M. Mount the rack Tom to a Cym std..

This is an inexpensive way & you can alway change it..

But it does sound better..& lets the bass drum resonate as well.!

My current Club Dates have the center pole, but the last ones had the rail. I don't remember having a rack tom sustain issue. Assuming you have explored tuning as well as positioning? Tune it high enough and it'll ring...heads will make a difference...what kind of flooring is under the kit [concrete, hardwood], front of bass drum on/off the floor...

I hope you can fix it without RIMS but that's just my personal bias and only with regard to appearance.

I find at an upper tuning range it will get some sustain, but if i tune it mid range it falls dead. RIMS sound nice but I agree on the appearance..

If that's the case...

I would look into the edges...1st ...then maybe change yr skins..

Purdie Shuffle, a member here, recommends turning the L-arm downward and hanging the tom from the inverted L-arm. I haven't had need to try this, but it's worth a try.

Yes I think that works, in fact it's probably the reason I didn't remember having any mounted tom sustain issue on the old Club Dates! [see pic] Apologies to the OP I forgot all about this...something about having the weight below the pivot point seems to free things up.

I'm sure it will/does work. That would scare me having it mounted on the down side as far as slippage/damage is concerned.
