I am searching for advice on how to identify the make of my drum set. I was always told it was a Slingerland, but there are no badges or other identifying marks. There is an oblong (sideways) mark on the floor tom that might have been a badge at one point. It's circa late 1960s to early 1970s. I've had the set since the mid-70s. Back in the day, before Made in Japan became a hallmark for quality, Japan exported lots of inexpensive drums and guitars that were visual knockoffs of premier American brands. They were not marketed as the real thing. Based on my experience with a number of these kits back in the'60s, the wraps were not as good as the real thing. and the shells made from inferior wood were often out of round with occasional flat spots. The hardware, while made to look like the real thing from a distance did not hold up after closer inspection. Enjoy them, but they have very little, if any resale value.
