Bass Drum Logo Removal

Loading...

Talking about Remo logos...a year ago I ordered a 20" "smooth white" bass drum head from an online retailer (maybe Steve Weiss...I can't remember) and was shocked at the size of the logo when the head arrived. Worse yet...acetone would only dull the black. There is no removing this logo.

Turns out it is a marching bass drum head. The website said nothing about it being a marching head and the photo certainly didn't show the huge logo on the bottom portion of the head.

I might have to try the Goo Gone on this head, but if straight acetone won't remove it I'm not too hopeful.

Holy crap,..... That`s overkill. Mine is itty bitty. But mine`s clear so, if you don`t look, you wont see it.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Remo uses a serious ink. Hope Goof Off gets it. Would be surprised as well if so.

Anyone wanting to take a Evans logo off a coated head.......fuggetaboutit. Evans has a pretty thick and tough white coating. Iron clad logo so coating comes off with the logo. Will reveal plain white smooth head underneath. Those may be nice for Slingerland repops? Lots of scrubby work though. Evans clear, logo will come off but leave a ghost image in head. Tools were 1. Acetone-head laughed at this. 2. Goo-gone. Meh but used magic eraser with it. That remove logo and coating. I have chemicals at work that are water miscible (can be used or mixed with water). Will try those on some old beater Evans. Remo ink stamp super easy to remove. Most are sorta faint out of the box. You'd think they would offer a option to stamp heads at bottom for us logo guys. For a few extra schmeckles. 0W3B with flopped crown....meh again.

Well if anyone is interested in how this did (or, more actually, did not work out), I tried nail polish remover, alcohol, and goo-gone, none of which worked. I took the gentle sanding route, which was quick manageable. Some coating came off, so I gave the head a dab of white spray paint and affixed my decal near that spot. My $20 head looks looks like its $60 counterpart.

Glad it worked out for you!! Removing logos from coated heads are a lot more trickier than clear heads...

I seem to remember someone, perhaps here, mentioning an online retailer who specialised in custom front bass heads that had 'logoless' heads they used for printing which they would sell you. I can't remember if if was all brands or just Aquarian or something but it might be worth a look in the future for those who want to avoid the removal process. I guess if you're buying from them you might as well get them to slap the logo you want on the head too.

EDIT: it appears to be these guys: http://www.vintagelogos.com/

I have no experience with them but they were the site that was recommended by someone. Can get Aquarian's sans-logo and possibly Remo.

I read about this somewhere.Maybe Jack Lawton told me???Can't remember.Anyway,it is an ink thinner and reconditioner.Called.....JustRite,Thinner Cleaner and Ink Reconditioner.Made by Millenium Marking Co. Elk Grove Village,Il. 60007.Works very well on new heads BUT not on older ones where ink has cured a long time.Apply, let set a few minutes and blot/pat gently.Probably has same ingredients you all are suggesting.Jim

Depends on the head and the factory ink used. "All -Purpose Stamp Cleaner". Is another possible choice. It is not as intense as Acetone. But may very well take coating off some heads.

On coated heads still believe best is to sand logo off and lightly spray a white primer intended for plastic. Any chemical will smear the ink from the logo. Very hard to cover with paint. Always welcome suggestions to improve however.

Just came across this old thread. FWIW, Drum Factory Direct sells plain heads with no logos: https://www.drumfactorydirect.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=15_1121

Another solution is to cut a port hole where the logo sits. For my RBs, I bought a coated Ambassador and had the shop cut out the Remo logo and install a protector ring over the hole. Then I added a Gretsch logo sticker. The port hole takes away some of the vintage vibe, but sound engineers love me.
