From R.Adam McHugh

Good thought. But isn't it on the wrong side of the tom? The mufflers would be facing out, Gretsch-like. Unless it was for a cymbal stand mount tom holder? I don't know, I'm not the cuckoo expert, I'm just the cuckoo...:DLovely bit of gear though!

Ludwig has been known to put their mounts on the wrong side of the drum, leaving the badge facing the player.

My 20 13 16 Ludwig Blue Oyster, all orphans.

First I got the 1967 bass, and later added a 16 floor, also 1967, and then the 13 rack from late 1966.

Sorry about the lack of front head on the pic, it just records a lot better like that. In the room I like it better with the front, but what can you do.

As soon as I had restored these and put them together for the first time, it all just sounded right straight away.

Did quite a bit of work to the bass, the interior had been painted black (as usual), and the hoops were worn. 13 needed quite a bath and a shine too...

Here is my most recent Ludwig project. I already had/have a 17/12/14 kit in natural maple finish. I had most of the stuff to do a mahogany one next. Was my last unfinished project and had them for a while. But instead, I sold the orphans and bought a Ludwig Transition badge 12x17 tenor tom to put this set together. Absolutely loving this set of drums. Don't normally drill drums. But I decided to add period correct hardware to the 12x17 tenor and also on the 12x15 tenor for the legs, giving the marchers some new life.

Transition badge Ludwig Gold Sparkle 12x17 for the bass. It has 48-52 Wfl hoops with newer inlays. Clockface rail mount and dual disappearing spurs. Original Playon Plastic on the reso. Waiting for a Ludwig head decal from a friend at the moment. Left the original school Id decal on it for a little nostalgia.

Ride tom is an original 9x13 Green Flash Pearl. 40's oval Ludwig & Ludwig Elkhart badge with Imperial lugs. Used a Ludwig Atlas mount to mate the original tom mount to the rail with no extra holes. Period calf head for the batter and older Remo Diplomat on the reso tuned tight to give this drum a beautiful tone.

'65 Ludwig 12x15 tenor for the floor tom. Has classic style leg mounts that you see on a few. Like them with the straight Club Date legs though. Original parade drum batter head on it sounds just right.

Modified a Ludwig snare stand to go low enough to be able to add my '69 Ludwig 6.5 Red Sparkle Symphonic as a snare to bring all the colors together. The sound from this set is just amazing.

Love that Mike, reminds me of my Old school jellybean set.

Here are a couple more of my Ludwigs just for fun.

Amber is a 74 probeat setup.

Champagne is a Fab four 09 setup.

Red Mahogany is an 75th anniversary power tom catalog kit.

Faded red is 2x22/14/15/18/coliseum snare. 1984 anniversary set also.

Nice sets here. Mlayton's jelly kit is incredible. That floor tom really pulls it all together, colorwise. Not too many drummers could even see the possibility of putting a kit like that together. Strong work, Mike!.......marko
