Ok....the last of the pieces came today, so this is a pretty close replica of the kit shown in the 1971 Ludwig catalog. Bass drum is from 1969, floor tom is from 1971 and the timbales are from 1980 (I think, I couldn't find any ink stamps, and they are steel unlike the earlier COB timbales, and the serial numbers aren't too far off of what was shown for 1979 B/O badges on Ludwig's site) but this is as close as anyone is going to get to the actual kit shown in the 1971 catalog.
Ludwig "Carioca" kit
Look great - classic!
I heard that if you're really, really good, when you die you go to this place where they have everything in the 1971 catalog.
Cool kit!
if you want to get those original heads looking nice and white, ten you can try a product made for kitchen and bathroom cleaning called "Soft Scrub with bleach". Apply a little of it to the head with a little bit of water. Use a green "Scrubbee" sponge thing and gently scrub it. Rinse with hot water. It won't take any dents out, but it will make the heads look a LOT better in photos, etc. I need to do that with several of my drums, too.

Comet works well too.... Walking
can someone post a picture of the kit from the catalog?

I was going to do that, but the only catalog pic I have is from the catalog posted on the main site, which is owned by the site and I didn't want to get into illegal use of pics, etc.
I have the catalog and scanned that... I hope the Ludwig family sees it as good advertising.
I'm cool with photo posting from the main web site.. Actually with a link to the page is the best way so anyone visiting can follow the link.
Most of the photos have two watermarks which is the domain name and or the LVDC - for LudwigVonDrumCrazy. Who I have lost contact with and he has not surfaced on any of the forums that I would see him on.
He was VERY KIND in sending me more Ludwig catalogs then you could ever hope to have in a large collection all organized.
So a link and "from vintagedrumguide.com will help populate the links around the forum.
Many times I add to a post just to give the links to different sections.
Thanks!
David
