The one I think you have is here in the middle, it has a few heights and lug counts. This one has the strap brackets on it. Number 108.

There`s a better view on the earlier catalog but I don`t know how to transfer it.

I send you also the measures of the drum: diameter 35 cm and 14 cm high. That can also be 13 or 15 cm. Than there are 6 screws of the drum and don't you think that it's more an drum from the 1930 catalog no. 357b or the 364. In the 1931 and 1932 catalog there can it be the 357a drum.

It's not Amati snare absolutely.

Agree with OddBall - to me it's really 30's Sonor.

Cheers,

George.

Well the thing with SONOR is they changed hardware every decade. This is still in play today. So, the 30`s drum will have the same shell, and lug counts but the shapes will be different. The 30`s and 20`s models have more squared lugs and the brackets are shaped different, does not effect the sound or weight, only the appearance. The bracket you have on yours is on a totally different marching drum than the other models. There are no surviving 40`s catalogs that I`m aware of so one decade is missing. Also, it appears that after the 40`s SONOR no longer attached the throw to the shell and hoop, the put it on only the shell. That`s why I think yours is the last of these models. I would guess 40`s or 50`s based on your throw attached to only the shell. The shape of the throw bracket seems to be different than the 30`s and 20`s too.

The only thing stopping me from being completely positive it is SONOR, is that SONOR always stamped or badged their drums

So it`s kind of still up in the air for me. But the knob, the flat on the throw screw, the shape of the hoops and the longer hook, all point to SONOR.

Remember, it`s a marching drum and parts could have been interchanged to make a working drum. No school or band buys just one.

I`ll try and get in touch with Hemelsoet, (henk). He`s a old SONOR expert.

I know this thread is about the copper snare, but has anyone noticed the Ludwig Imperial lugs on the bottom drum in the catalogue pic? What's going on there? Hmmmm

That`s a SONOR Extra, it was designed for and gifted to Mr. Ludwig himself by Mr. Link at a meeting in Germany in the 30`s. Mr. Ludwig had a vacation spot there. The two met often and is the reason I suspect co-ordination in designs by the two. If you look at the 30`s cat. you`ll see an identical stencil SONOR drum that looks exactly like the leedy and Ludwig snares of the time.

You read that right,......Ludwig SONOR extra`s and SONOR Black Beauties.

Take a look for yourself,...Curotto is the only guy that has enough of those to give a comparison by photo`s because these SONOR BB`s are extremely rare because of the war.

Check these with the Ludwig and Leedy BB`s and vice versa, the Supra against the Extra.

Remember there was no USA market from SONOR til after the war, even though SONOR had a USA model.

This is the USA model from the mid 20`s, I`m gonna go out on a limb and guess that Bill designed it for Link and later in the 30`s, Link returned the favor.....

Just a theory I happen to agree with.

Wow! I never knew that, but the German connection makes perfect sense. Thanks for that info. Man, I love this place. Everyday there's something new! :D
