Classy Little Yamaha D20 in Black

I drove a 10 hour round trip yesterday to pick up this neat little Yamaha D-20 kit. I'd say early 70s and still has the original reso heads. 20/12/14 + snare in very nice shape. The previous owner cleaned them up and painted a few deteriorated chrome parts flat silver but otherwise it's ready to play. I had just sold my red thunder Yamaha kit a couple of weeks back but I guess I was missing it.

Wow! Classy indeed. They look great!

Is that a Premier Snare Stand? Looks like that would hold up to 1000 pounds!

Very nice! And indeed ones hooked to this sound its hard to come by.

Looks like the hoops are aftermarket (the original ones I ever saw came with metal hoops, I can see why somebody switched to full black)

thanks guys. It sure is nice and it came with a 50s 22" Zildjian A ride and a Paiste 602 18" crash/ride. The plan was to sell them to offset the cost of the kit but they are both fantastic cymbals so I'm keeping them - a familiar story around these parts:)

And yes, that's a Premier Lokfast snare stand that came with the kit. Unfortunately it has seen better days

musiqman - D series kits came with metal and wood hoops. These ones are metal that have been painted black. All the D series kits I've owned came with metal hoops from the factory but I've seen many with factory wood hoops as well.

sorry about that Terry. I wasn't planning on buying it but just got carried away. It still seemed like reasonable buying. And I'm a sucker for these old Yamaha kits.

Still, I stayed out of that little silver YD series kit which was a great buy. And the cymbals look like they may be Zildjian As too. Well done

There was an exact kit like yours for sale on my local classifieds a couple of years ago for

$400 Cdn.. I should have snagged them up, but i'm not crazy about 14" floor toms.

Your kit is museum quality.. Congrats on a very nice find !

Yeah $152 is damn good buying with logistics being a box of beer to get it to me. I haven't been able to find a name of reference to the colour. Any clues on that for me?

Agreed the cymbals look like similar era Zildjians so pretty stoked with the score.
