Well a picture's worth.....a couple of words here so I took a picture. :) Truth be told I'm flying blind with this stuff and actually just bought the less expensive of the products they had - there is another called "oil modified" which might work even better, by which I really just mean "dry faster". This stuff takes about an hour if you suspend the piece over a heater as I am doing.

Here's a pic of the snare rash on the tom after application of the Minwax. What snare rash? I don't see no snare rash. For those who really like to do things right, a product which does not add any amber tint at all would be preferable, especially since the rash itself is a sort of caramel colour. I re-attached the original pic of the rash for easy comparison. And just for fun the hoops on the boom stand above the heater.
One tip on doing this - once the Minwax is on the whole piece, and suspended above a heater, I recommend rotating the piece every minute or so until it's tacky, to prevent runs.

Thanks a ton guys! It's dreary weather here today, when we get some sunshine I'll post some pics of the kit all together and matching now like it should. The Minwax on the BD hoops did indeed secure the inlay all the way around - it sorta loosened up while over the heater but then contracted and the Minwax penetrated under the inlay and stuck it down. We'll see how that holds over time...

Sunny day today so here are the pics. This worked for me with the Minwax because the other 3 shells were not very ginger-aled to begin with - for drums that have more aging a person who knew what they were doing could add tint to the Minwax and possibly get away with only 1 coat. The other thing I had going for me was the blue tint of the new wrap, which added a bit of green to the final look, matching the other shells.

Thanks Jeff! Yeah, I had a long love affair with WMP when I was into the MIJs, and then natural wood for awhile, and champagne sparkle is always tempting, but silver sparkle is just *it* for me.
About the mods to the kit - the center pole was installed by the last owner. I cut up one of those double-angle cymbal holders for a tom mount, to get it over to where it would hang with an off-center rail mount, like on a Downbeat kit. Plugged the existing rail mount holes. I use these drums for rock shows sometimes so the original bass drum spurs didn't cut it - too splayed to really lift the front of the kick or provide solid support. So I had to swap for fold-out spurs, which really do the trick. Plugged the original spur holes with drumsticks, wedged in, marked and cut into discs. So now the little Club Dates are "rock solid" and ready to gig...
