Still Get Nervous?

From al9000

That (and getting them moving) are about all you can ask for. Congratulations!Al

Thanks very much, Al. Yesterday was the kind of day I'll remember for a long time. Days like that make moving tons of equipment back and forth, setting up and doing endless sound checks well worth it! I'm still tired but, it's a good tired. Thanks again, Al.

Just a drummer who loves all things about vintage drums! Nothing more, nothing less.

As Tom Petty said, "The waiting is the hardest part." I hate waiting around to play, once we start, I'm fine, but until then, I'm a nervous wreck.

Oh yeah I still get nervous... but it just occurred to me that unlike some other highly public activities where I was putting myself out there for an audience I have never had a bad dream about screwing up behind a drum kit.

Not sure why... I should have kept my mouth shut... I'll probably have a dream about falling backwards off the stage tonight. Cooked Egg :)

Not a Guru... just interested..

I once dreamt the drums I was playing all turned into saucepans. I do like to cook, so maybe my inner-chef was invading my subconscious.

As for nerves, hardly ever anymore. The odd reading gig makes me balk a little, depending on the gig, but otherwise not really. But those waiting gigs I really hate. Sitting around for hours on end. I have better things to do! :) The Band

I think it's a personality thing. I get nervous before I play, but I know guys who are cold as ice about it. They can just get out there and do it without giving it a second thought. I've never been like that. I get nervous each and every time. I'm good once we start, but up to then, I'm pooping myself.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Jeff Porcaro about it (from 7m51sec on)

[ame="https://youtu.be/dQ6tzbKsKKk"]'Channeling nervousness into a Beat'[/ame]

See also his back then wife Susan Porcaro's Comment on him being so nervous before this workshop at MI.

The whole Video is worth watching, saw it back in my MI/ PIT Days in '93, sadly after Jeff's passing.

Lars

That video of Jeff actually gave me a lot of inspiration when I first watched it. I was blown away by the fact that we wasn't a huge fan of the shuffle and didn't know how to read music.

18 Kits & 40+ snares..
