home, when nobody's here
Where are you most comfortable as a drummer?
Been playing with an Allman Brothers tribute band the past few years and I've really found more satisfaction in the songs I never thought I would. The jams: Elizabeth Reed, Whipping Post, Soulshine. You just climb into those beats and the songs lifts you along.
Man whipping post is tough with the timing but got love the challenge 123,223,323 423 5and
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp
once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Forgive me cause it's late and I've knocked back some Sangre de Toro, but what do you mean by man wiping post? Is that your most comfortable place as a drummer????

I would love to play hard.alt ,blues and SKA. I haven't been able to use sticks in years. I got involved with a big band sound, country and bluegrass/Americana.So it is brushes and hot-rods.I haven't been able to"hit" my drums ever since. Now I am used to playing soft.I never overshadow my non-amplified band mates EVER.........
Most gigs are at senior homes ,care centers so the older folks enjoy the music .That is what counts...Motorhead does not work there. Vati

Jaghog is typographically challenged. he knows it. We all know it. And we love him anyway :)
I swear. Whipping Post with two drummers is a different beast. I stay off the kick, play the snare accents and a counter jazz pattern on the ride. The Butch part is a more involved but the key element is staying out of each other's way. Less can be more.
This is a great post.
Blues drenched rock and roll, or just da Blues. I played in a SRV/Hendrix cover band for many years, so playing that stuff is right in my wheelhouse.
