Gretsch Playboy 12/20 + 14 Prog. Jazz FT Wrap Issues?

Conundrum (no pun intended!):

1) the 12/20 is part of the PLAYBOY outfit minus the FT. Playboy's are scarce, so do I:

a) part them, b) fix wrap on tom (BD is quite iffy), c) sell as is & call it a day?

2) the Prog Jazz 14" FT has wrap prob. as shown. Do I fix as is & just get the wrap back down. Or should I cut the bad warp OFF, using the good from the BD? It's mainly the section shown that has the issue.

My MAIN M.O. is getting drum(s) back to their glory w/out mods. So, then is it wiser to leave wrap alone?

Chris

FT to begin ...

What is your intent? If the drums were mine I'd have the FT rewrapped by a pro due to its scarcity and save the remaining salvageable wrap for repairs on other drums. That would be my go-to jazz/GB set for sure. 20/12/14 is perfect. How bad is the BD?

its sad to see the shape of some of the drums we find , but that being said id re wrap what needed , and then clean them up and play them, selling as we all know! if its not perfect and cheap no one buys lol

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

BD wrap is bunched & hard in some areas but seems flexible for the most part. Think heat & cold expanded / contracted over time and where the seam is there's clearly been movement away from where it was initially glued mid-60's.

Intent is ALWAYS, when feasible, to detail vintage drums w/out moding them. W/ these, there is no "collector" range except maybe the FT; of course noting any wrap that was removed & any added from, say, the good BD wrap.

Gut is either selling the 12/20 as is & let someone else have fun. BUT then I have no wrap to use on the FT ... so then probably wise to remove BD wrap & part $h!t out WHICH I HATE DOING!!!

But do I have all that much choice considering???

When I met the owner I was anticipating a full Playboy kit & was very excited as they're far and few between. And since the FT was added somewhere along the way it's kinda like a Larry Flint version rather than the Hugh Hefner outfit (kind of a tasteless joke - Coffee Break2).

Would love input ...

Some of you guys have come up on this issue with a mixed kit in need of lengthy repairs.

{there are 2 other threads w/ the bass + tom}.

Thx!
