I just picked this up from a guy off of CL. I think it is a late 60's Krupa Sound King? Scored it for $100! Any info you can all give me would be appreciated. I assume this is the original batter head? The reso has a similar stamp.
Slingerland Sound King Year?
You've got an awesome 60's model SK. One of the best sounding snare drums on the planet. Yes those are original factory heads, The price was a home run deal !
Late sixties. The wide slider clasp on the Zoomatic was used mid '68 and up. The serial number is consistent with '68-'69, so probably mid/late '68 or '69 vintage. Shell and hoops should be COB (a magnet should NOT stick). Looks like a real nice original example you've got there.
Great drum and a great price.
Yes a great deal for sure... lucky guy... I'd pack those original heads away and save them..
Cheers

No dents the knob, original heads. Congrats!!
Clean Micro fiber towels only on the chrome. One of the best snares at any price. The strainer may need the spring mod to make it perfect but otherwise you should be fine. What snares does this one have?
Thanks!
Creighton
I am not sure but here are a few close up photos.
I assume the plastic snare straps were original to this drum since the snare wire end plates don't have holes for cord? Normally I hate the mylar strapping but I might have to keep some variation of it on this.
I'm also taking suggestions on what heads I should put on this drum. I was planning to stick with either a coated ambassador or coated G1 over a hazy ambassador or 300. The original head is not coated and is very much like a Remo smooth white. Keep in mind I play jazzier music but I also like a good classic rock sound. This is my first brass snare so I didn't know if anyone had any thoughts for me.
Thanks!

That is the correct '68-1/2 and up snare wire arrangement with straps on both ends. Slingerland part #NZ-2013. I believe the mylar is correct but Creighton should know for sure. The strap clasps will also accept cord so you are not limited to strap style snare wires only. Once again, great find.
