Recommendations for Nashville and Memphis mid October ...

My wife and I are going to be in both Memphis and Nashville mid October as she is taking me for my birthday . I am already planning to visit Forks and Memphis Drum shops but was wondering what else there is to see and places to go along with places to eat . I am planning on Sun Records , Graceland , and I was hoping to see some live music while there . I am into Jazz , Rhythm n Blues , traditional Country , and traditional Rockabilly ... any recommendations would be greatly appreciated ... Thank you in advance ...

I hope some of our Southern members reply, as my wife and I are heading to Beale Street the first week of October for some Blues and BBQ. Memphis tourist site gives way too many options. Like you, I'd like some recommendations for the best places to stay and eat from some locals.

So where is the local drum shop?

Other than the Opry- the Station Inn is a great place for bluegrass. To me, the better music venues are the Exit/In, 12th and Porter, and 3rd and Lindsley. They should have websites with their scheduled performers. It might be hard to get into the Bluebird Cafe. Definitely need reservations there.

Southhaven, MS is where I've stayed when visiting Memphis, and it's not far from Graceland- not the best/safest area.

"3rd & Linsdley" was known as a great Monday nite jam venue.. Vince Gill was fairly regular there.. but you need to cue early...

My son had a nice & lucky "one on one" with Vince there a few years back.

Has anyone been to Jack White's Third Man Records shop in Nashville? I'd go there. They have a record machine recording booth on site. One of only a few working still?

I've driven by it many times but never visited. I'd love to visit it though.

The guy is an amazing artist and great drummer.

Because of Jack a record pressing factory in south Nashville had to expand its production capacity. United Pressing is what it's called I think. They offer tours as well.
