I just picked these Ludwigs up today. I agreed to buy without knowing exactly what was hiding under these pretty shagadelic looking leopard furs. Pictures will tell the story.

Sadly these shells were drilled for Pearl mounts.

Big Beat set?

First look at 12" tom covered in some kind of dried glue. Any tips?

If the glue is sticky/rubbery you could maybe start with warm water and some sort of soap/detergent, progress to chemicals if necessary [I don't know which ones, is that black wrap or paint?]...if it's real hard and dry you might be able to slice it off with a super sharp razor, like taking a decal off glass. I did that on my Club Dates to a streak of what looked like cola that *nothing* else would remove. That was on wrap [Ludwig smooth not Rogers "orange peel"]

At least they did a meticulous job drilling for that Pearl mount DOH

Thanks for the info, Mitch. It's a black wrap and the glue is dried on and not at all sticky. I'm not sure what type of glue was used, but I'm sure I can get rid of it. I'll post updates here. Thanks.

nice kit underneath it all.

the webbing pattern looks like its spray glue.

depending on what the glue is on, i can sometimes flake it off with my finger, roll it off or use duct tape because its more like weebing and not solid like other types of glue.

What do they say, beauty is skin deep? Get all that skin off and you may have a beauty. Can you imagine the bar that kit was being used in. Ugh. Good thing you saved those babies. You'll be getting some more responses, but use the search engine looking for glue or glue removal and you may get your answer right away. I know I've seen post on folks doing that.

I saw one on Craigslist a few years ago of an Austin Fibes covered in pink tiger fur.

Quirky is one thing ,but that's just sacrilege.

Thank for the replies guys. I managed to remove the dried in glue from the black cortex. I sprayed the areas with WD 40 and let it sit for a while. I later went back and hit it with a damp cloth and I managed to get rid of most of the glue. I had to scrap some parts with a knife. It didn't damage the finish in the slightest. Here is how the 12" looks now.

More photos to come...

These drums used to belong to some rock band back in the 80's / 90's who always appeared in small print on the festival bill. That kind of thing.
