So I am putting together a birthday show set for August. It'll be my band as well as two other local bands made up of good friends. At some point in the show I wanted to have a 20-30 min drum battle between myself and the other two drummers. My thought was to do it before my band goes on as we plan to play an hour and a half set. My band thinks it should be after all the bands have played. My thought is that 5 mins after the last band played people have already left. They aren't as likely to leave if the main band hasn't even played yet. What do you guys think?
Now I must also add in - all the kits will be set-up at the same time. So it won't be solo - swap. It'll be a battle like you'd have seen back in the day. I know many people might get " bored " with the drum solo, but around here I feel because they are few and far between more people watch them. And if I bill a show with an Epic Drum Battle mid set, I can see people turning out for that, on the idea of " Oh s--t, this is a once a year " something not to be missed, and not to happen every month.
