Gretsch Name Band Snare

Loading...

Does anybody know what year Gretsch started mounting its key holders on the shells of its Name Band Model snare drums?

Should a Name Band snare with the grey painted interior shell but without the Gretsch label on the interior shell have a key holder mounted on it?

Finally, can anyone take a look at the pics of the shell that I've posted and confirm how many plies it's got?

As usual, thanks to all for your input!

OldSchool, I can't answer your questions about how many plies. In fact, I have that same question myself regarding my own Gretsch set.

I can confirm that to my knowledge the key holder in the Name Band snare, painted grey but without a label would appear to exist--but I will confirm this with the seller since I am not able to look inside the snare myself (I still haven't picked them up as I am in Europe and the set is in Nevada). My set has that sort of snare and no labels in any of the 3 drums according to the seller, which I am assuming means pre 1962.

Here are the photos and you will see that the key is still in the snare holder--anyone who can confirm 6 ply, thanks in advance.

Both my RB snares, one with a label and the other without, both silver painted interiors, have snap-in key holders. The older set has been approx'd at 1958-ish.

I also have wondered how do you count those plies. Is this it?:

(please excuse my rough Photoshoping)

The green bar would be the pearl, then the yellow would be the layer of contact cement... then it gets shady...

Is it 6 ply like I've labeled in red? Pretty ambiguous around 5 & 6...
