How loud are stainless steel ludwigs ?

Now there's a question.. How loud are they really ? I would assume they've got plenty of resonance, which is why drummers like Bonham and Palmer wanted a kit, and the obvious steel shell isn't as warm as wood.. I saw a kit on my local classifieds, but with smaller standard sizes (22-16-13) selling for a pretty decent price. Wasn't thinking of buying, (i'm mostly a window shopper ;)),but just wanted to hear some opinions on this kit... Obviously stainless steel drums of standard sizes can be less loud, but with a stainless steel shell, i'm not sure if size matters ?..I would think they'd still be loud, if that makes any sense ? Please forgive my ignorance in the matters of stainless steel.. Never heard one in person myself..I've seen them pop up on the internet in these sizes for a lot more, and there's actually a 5 piece in another city on the same classifieds for less ! Question is, why so cheap ?

Here's the kit in question, and the other one is the cheaper priced kit, but with extra 12.. Stands look to be original as well.

At the drum show a few years back I had my octopus SS kit set up and even with the massive drum noise your heard my SS kit loud and clear

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

The sizes you've mentioned the 22" ss bass drum can easily compete with any 24" wood bass drum volume wise. Stainless can sound very wood sounding, Stainless is a very versatile material.

That's actually surprising to me. I would think that they'd be loud and obnoxious, but that's a refreshing take on SS shells.. I think maybe with some coated vintage Emperors, CS clear black dots or even coated G2's they'd probably sound nice..? I also heard these shells weigh a ton ?

I use Coated emperors on top and coated ambassadors bottom with powerstroke3 on the batter side bass drum and coated ambassador or emperors on the front side. They're heavy but not as heavy as the 6 ply chrome o wood shells are.

Thanks for the info ;).. I have a 6 ply early Monroe keystone badge floor tom and it weighs almost as much as my 6 ply kick ! Very heavy..

I had a 26x16 six ply Classic kick, part of probably one of the last b/o badged Chicago kits , and that thing weighed a ton! The four curved spurs probably didn't help any...
