High bonding double-sided tape?

Hi

I just got off the phone with JamminSam. They have the strong double-sided tape that I need for my wrap project but they won't sell it to me. They only sell it at the time you buy their wrap. I contacted PrecissonDrum and they don't deal in tape - they use glue. I have a nice old drum and a great piece of PrecissonDrum wrap that I want to cover it with. However, I don't want to glue it because I might want to eventually remove the wrap and go with the factory (natural) finish.....and I don't want to potentially damage the factory finish with glue.

Taping would be perfect in my case because I would use a moderate bonding tape to tape the wrap to the shell and a high strength tape for the few inches of overlap (as shown in JamminSam's video).

I'm in Canada - does anyone here know where I can get the tape for my project? Jammin's tape is made especially for them and they don't like to sell it.

I've never tried using just tape to wrap a drum, but I have used this tape for the initial placement/start of the wrap. This 3M double-sided tape is used for phone and laptop screens. It's strong and not expensive. I cut the sheets to the sizes I needed.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. I bought this piece of wrap for this drum more than 5 years ago but didn't have the heart to glue it on the factory mahogany outer ply. I think I would still like to put this green sparkle wrap on the snare drum just to have it on there for a few years. If and when I want the natural finish back it won't be as traumatising on the shell as having to remove contact cement. Like i said above, I'll use some low bond tape to hold the wrap in place (next to the shell) and only use the high bond stuff on top of the wrap - on the overlay.

You might as well glue it. That tape is going to strip the natural finish right off the drum.

I've already put a Tung Oil finish on the drum years ago...........it's the Mahogany wood that I don't want to be scraping contact cement off........I've been there with other shells. When the drum came to me the original outer clear lacquer over the wood shell was in very bad shape. I sanded it - took out most of the dings and applied a couple coats of Tung Oil. See photo. I think an inch or 2" wide strip of low bonding double-sided tape against the wood is something I can live with. I can't see it being much of a problem. I will only apply the high bonding tape to the new sparkle wrap.

That's what Jammin Sam's pre-taped wrap does.... low bond to the shell so it can be pulled up and realigned if necessary, then super high-bond at the seam. It can be removed with minimal damage to the original shell's exterior.

Use the medium bond tape for the portion of the wrap that attaches to the shell and then some 3M contact/counter top cement to attach the two pieces of wrap. Once the lugs are on, things are not going to move. If you need to remove the wrap, just break the seal where the wrap meets.

I have JamminSam wrap with tape on my Blue Glass Gretsch kit and the seams are coming up anyways. I followed his instructions to the T and all of the seams need to be attached with cement now. Not just a couple, but all. :-(
