how much for this pearl kit?

Thanks for the info guys. I asked the seller if it was a blue sparkle wrap and they said the shells are painted and they think it is a 60's kit. They haven't sent me any more pics. They are only asking $100....I just wanted to get a better idea what I'm looking at. Going by the lug on the bass drum...it's looks like a late 60' pearl kit.

Are you wanting a player, a collector kit, or something to restore/modify? $100 is a no brainer for a player.

Wanted: Pearl President floor tom in Golden Grain wrap and rack tom in Tiger Eye (root beer) wrap.

I've seen luan kits and steel snares with the 'president' lugs. The kit that Floyd has (the one I posted) has the same PEARL logo badges that yours has and it is phenolic.Yeah, that blue set looks pretty 'standard.' That pink kit is awesome! The bass tom mounts look to be later... maybe 70s? I have a rail mount on one of my basses, a mount that is identical to the one on your blue set on one, and another that is similar, but smaller as if it was intended to come with one rack tom. I've seen kits from the early 70's with battleship lugs, too. I agree with you 100%. Nothing standardized about them.

Thanks, it was my main kit for years. I got it before I started restoring drums though, so I made some mods to make it playable, which I regretted later. Swapped the bass drum spurs, and the dual tom mount was indeed a 70's replacement that I finally put on after I snapped the third authentic 60's one in a row (they don't hold up well unless you balance them with both rack toms, and I prefer a 4-pc).

I too have seen the kits with battleship lugs, which look very cheesy and cheap to me compared to the President lugs.

I'm not 100% sure if I will keep them or sell them (want to keep it!). They are located close to my brother, so he is supposed to pick them up for me in a few days. Agreed on $85....so like you said, a no brainer. I already have 4 kits set up but may be able to squeeze another kit in my drum room. I will most likely re-cover them with a sparkle wrap. May go with purple for my 7 year old daughter (may get her more interested in drums if she has her "own" kit :) I will definitely post some better pics and pics after I wrap them.

My brother picked up the drums. I haven't seen them yet though. The guy said the badges may not be from the kit. To me it looks like the deluxe drum kit from the late sixties...any ideas?

If those badges are not from the kit and you plan to sell please give me a shout I am missing one.

I still think it is not Pearl. Star.

I will let you know if I plan on selling the badges. I still think it's a Pearl, but I could be wrong :) I found a couple kits on this forum and the it looks like the same lugs as my kit....when I get it I will take some better photos as well. http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=32552 http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=47372&highlight=pearl

Here are some more pics. Notice the tom brackets and snare throw...does this help identify what these are? No reinforcement rings and vertical wood grain. The 12" tom and snare have an adjustable muffler. The kick drum is 20" by 14". The previous owner apparently took off the wrap and painted them blue.

Snare drum is without a doubt Pearl or a Pearl stencil brand. The tom I can't tell for sure. I'm not familiar with those lug casings, but the muffler and backing screws and appearance of the wood still say Pearl to me. The rim contour also. I'd say the kick and toms, if their hardware matches, are pre-1965 and the snare is later 60's or 70's vintage.

Great info! I'm glad to know I can leave the Pearl bass drum head on :) All of the hardware on the kick and toms do match.

Presidents were not strictly standardized. I owned a pink lemonade sparkle President stencil kit, phenolic with coffin lugs (Pearl called these "President Lugs" in their catalogs), with 6 lugs on all three toms and no badges ever. I currently own a red oyster pearl kit that is luan but matches the configuration of the President kit exactly from the catalog of the year they released the President kit. I call it a proto-President. I've seen other anomalies as well on President kits too. Those lugs on the kick drum here aren't Slingerland copies, btw. They have a thin ridge on top, Slingerland lugs and copies have a much wider ridge. Here are photos of three President kits I've owned. The blue one is the only one that matched Pearl's official description of the kit.

I'm loving the pink. I thought Rogers had the pink - I mean, red wine - market cornered? Nice!
