I'm am looking at this Pearl President kit and wondering what a fair price would be for it. These are the only pics I have to go by.
I noticed that the rim is missing on the floor tom and there is no snare stand...no big deal though

Those lugs don't look like Pearls to me. Badges: Presidents would not have wooden shells. They would be phenolic. That snare does not look right. FloydZKing has an EARLY set in blue sparkle. He would have a better answer. If these are the ones for sale in NW Washington I think the price is a bit high even if they were presidents. It is very hard to tell anything with those photos.

Vintage Pearl kits from the late 60's and early 70's had some different lugs on different series. There was the Slingerland type lug which looks like the one in the pic, then there was the "arrow" type lug, and the famous "battleship" lug for the early 70's.. I had 2 kits from both eras both with different lugs, so it's possible that this kit is actually an early Pearl kit from the late 60's..

Yeah, I have one full and 2 'partial' sets of Presidents. All have the coffin lugs. I have an early 70s fiberglass kit with the 'battleship' lugs. The lugs in the photos are different on the snare... more like the early 70s lugs. Floyd's early set has the coffin lugs, too. I'm adding a pic of his drums without permission. It was posted on this forum.
I don't have the experience you guys do, and have not seen the lugs that are on the bass, FY and RT on Pearls before(that can be seen in the fuzzy pics.) The point I am trying to make is that the OP should find out what they are/ give some better pics before anybody can tell him what they are 'worth.' A quick lesson that gets taught on this board is don't judge a set by a head logo or even a badge. (Thanks for the education, guys.) The only thing that definitely looks Pearl to me (other than the bass pedal and HH stand) are the lugs on the snare. And those types of lugs have been put on everything. There is a set of Ludwig Accents sitting here with the same lugs (anybody need a cheap shell kit for the kiddos?) Come to think of it the ends on that rail mount don't look Pearlish, either... Better pics, please!
Thanks for the info guys. I asked the seller if it was a blue sparkle wrap and they said the shells are painted and they think it is a 60's kit. They haven't sent me any more pics. They are only asking $100....I just wanted to get a better idea what I'm looking at. Going by the lug on the bass drum...it's looks like a late 60' pearl kit.

Agreed. I myself never consider anything until i can inspect it thoroughly.. Very nice kit you have there btw ! ;)
Presidents were not strictly standardized. I owned a pink lemonade sparkle President stencil kit, phenolic with coffin lugs (Pearl called these "President Lugs" in their catalogs), with 6 lugs on all three toms and no badges ever. I currently own a red oyster pearl kit that is luan but matches the configuration of the President kit exactly from the catalog of the year they released the President kit. I call it a proto-President. I've seen other anomalies as well on President kits too.
Those lugs on the kick drum here aren't Slingerland copies, btw. They have a thin ridge on top, Slingerland lugs and copies have a much wider ridge.
Here are photos of three President kits I've owned. The blue one is the only one that matched Pearl's official description of the kit.

Nice kits! Thanks for posting the pics

I've seen luan kits and steel snares with the 'president' lugs. The kit that Floyd has (the one I posted) has the same PEARL logo badges that yours has and it is phenolic.
Yeah, that blue set looks pretty 'standard.' That pink kit is awesome! The bass tom mounts look to be later... maybe 70s? I have a rail mount on one of my basses, a mount that is identical to the one on your blue set on one, and another that is similar, but smaller as if it was intended to come with one rack tom. I've seen kits from the early 70's with battleship lugs, too. I agree with you 100%. Nothing standardized about them.
