Need help with indentifying cymbal

Loading...

I just found this in the garage. 14" has an ink medium heavy stamp on the bottom. One person I talked too said it was from the 70's.

Not 70's, I'm guessing 40's or 50's. I used to have a link to dating stamps, but when I checked it to post, it has been deleted..

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

That would be '60's or 70's. You can't get a good fix on the era for new stamps without a good look at the whole cymbal. That's the only K era that this applies to. It's because they had several identical trademark dies for the new stamp era which they used over a long period of time. The older trademark types had one die for each era, each with their own unique characteristics, and unique to that time period only. These only lasted a few years each.

In the new stamp era that had these several identical types so that when one die wore out they just switched to another one of the identical dies, and so the form of the trademark remained the same from about 1964 to 1977.

From what little I can see of the hammering and lathing characteristics on your cymbal, I'm favoring the earlier part of that era rather than the later.

electricit

[COLOR="DarkRed"]This is what you call...a bit of an .....understatement.

It's got the full sig, very clear and preserved....and no keyholing.

If the cymbal is in good shape, no cracks, bends, warps, bad edge nicks, etc....and the weight is under 950g...

...jeeeeez.....what a find ! That is a $200-250 cymbal there and probably a very nice example of a later K Istanbul !!!!

If it happens to fall in the sweet range of around 700-800g....it is even more of a find...

That's an older new stamp, primitve type. Could be 1964 to 1968.
