hi. as most of us know, Ringo was given a gold plated SS Snare as a gift from Ludwig to honor his achievements for the ludwig Company. i just read that this was in 1962. so i was wondering if this was a gold plated COB SS or already ludaloy... is this commonly known? i also heard Ringo still owns that snare...

It was 1964 and it was a ludalloy version as the COB version was done by then. And yes, Ringo does still own the drum aong with all his Ludwig drums from the Beatles days (with the exception of the floor tom and bass drum to his first Downbeat kit. Those were unfortunately destroyed in a house fire some years ago.)

The story I hear is that there were 4 of these gold plated Super-Sensitives (3 5x14s and 1 6.5x14) presented to Ludwig artists; the 3 5x14s went to 1. Joe Morello, 2. Dick Schory, 3. Ringo Starr and 4. the only 6.5x14 went to George Gaber...the drums were heavy brass/gold plated pre-serial #'ed Super-Sensitives with the small tone control thumb screw, crimped beds etc...later on Ludwig made 20-25 5x14 gold plated Ludalloy Super-Sensitives that they presented to the top Ludwig dealers in the USA (world?)...

Hi,
I thought--probably myth--that Paul McCartney had at least one of Ringo's kits.
Yes/No?
cheers,
Patrick
I thought this might be of interest: Ringo receiving his gold snare from WFL II and R. L. Schory, Ludwig's director of marketing.
