I'm curious if anyone can tell who this kit was made by. It's been slightly modified with wood kick hoops, newer t-rods, a Ludwig throw off, cymbal holder and the wrap was removed. The shells are thin with no rings and a grey interior, thanks.

Star. Not sure if Pearl or Hoshino ever did the grey painted interiors. Also, check the rack tom rods and inserts to see if they are the smaller, metric threads.

My experience indicates that that snare, with that particular shell, can sound AWESOME. Great woody vintage tone - blowing away most other vintage MIJ snares.

Of all my MIJ snares, none have that thicker shell. I sold the one I am referring to to a friend (who in turn sold it too).

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Alot of double words here!

It reminds me of a 'joke' I saw on FB the other day.

"If guns don't kill people, people kill people.....does that mean that a toaster don't toast toast, toast toast toast?" (might have this slightly wrong....but if not very close......in that case "paraphrased"!)

The snare sounds great, probably the best part of the kit. When I first bought them at the drum shop, the owner told me he had been considering selling the snare seperately because it sounded so good. I know it's not the prettiest kit around, but it sure sounds like one.

Pearl also did grey painted interiors, but these do appear to be Star.

If this is not the grey paint you are talking about:

what else could this be? Zola coating like on vintage Tama Imperialstars?
