Paiste 2002 + Zildjian Avedis ride

Loading...

I've had a set of drums (in storage over recently) for nearly 30 years, the set was purchased second hand so some of the items originally purchased are quite old now.

I'm keen to understand the history and value of some of the items and would appreciate any pointers.

Hi-hats

Pasite 2002 15" black label serial 520669

Condition: Dull as not been cleaned, very good condition IMHO

Ride

Zildjan Avedis 20" Rock Ride

Condition: Has some white marks from cheap sticks but main ink and cymbol still shinny like new. I still have the original slip it came in. Remember walking round a shop with my Dad hitting loads until we settled on this beauty. 25 years ago it was £130...

If it helps the Hi-hats came with a set of drums which included Rodgers pedals, I heard Rodgers bundled 2002 with certain kits they sold

Thanks

I believe that those hats were produced in 1975.

Yes. Paiste 6 digit serial numbers have the year of production in the first digit. They should be black label.

I haven't done pricing research on Paiste 2002s myself. I'm the 602/Sound Creation/Trad pricing guy. Unfortunately the owner of Paiste Only refuses to allow any discussion of prices so you you won't get any info on prices there. Maybe you could try completed sales on eBay. Interestingly there are a "Heavy" pair of these currently for sale on our local New Zealand site and they were offered at NZD120 (USD82 or £58 at today's exchange rates) with no takers in a previous listing. I just mention this to show that the market for used cymbals can vary a bit from country to country (see below for discussion about the Rock Ride).

The Avedis Rock Ride I presume still has the ink on it? The Rock Rides came into production by 1972 (based on ad copy), although I don't have a specific set of years for production on my timeline yet:

I can't tell you what the expected value is in the UK because although the market is a bit different I still don't have an accurate calibration of that effect. If it were in the USA (or let's say eBay global market) my data suggest around $130 plus or minus $30. But I'd need a photo of condition to be more comfortable with that. And there is a lot of variation in prices for what look to be equivalent cymbals in terms of condition.

Hope this gets you started.

That's some pretty detailed information. Thanks

From what I can see the ride is worth anything between £100-£150, with the 2002s being £150-£200... I found some links on my other machine to current sales so will dig them out and post ;)

As a Paiste user for the past 24 years, and vintage Paiste collector for half that time, i have a pretty good idea of what you have and what they're worth. If your hi hats have the rippled edges on the bottom cymbal, then they're the famous, highly collectible John Bonham "sound edge" hi hats, used on almost every Zeppelin record, and countless other classic rock band albums as well. The fact that they're from the "heyday" of Zeppelin's career and hard rock music in general, make them highly sought after.. They're easily worth $475-$500 US dollars.. Here's a website that i use for reference all the time, and he has great deals on them !
