Can anyone identify these MIJ lugs?

Loading...

These came off a center lug Japanese bass drum. The drum is lightweight and has re-rings on edges and in the center, but seems to be decent quality luan. The interior has a reddish tint, looks almost stained. The rest of the hardware had been replaced, so it didn't offer a clue as to what brand it was. Matching hoops were wooden, I'm thinking early 60's. I didn't immediately recognize it as any of the brands I've come across before.

These lugs seem to fit the 60's/70's Slingerland footprint but they have this nice scalloped top. I'd love to find two more of them, or maybe four, for a snare drum. But first I need to know what to look for. Anyone know who made these?

Actually, I remembered these t-rods came on the bass. The heads on these mean they're Pearl unless I'm mistaken.

Yeah - T-rods look to be Pearl.

Those lugs are a real mystery to me. Typically, when they have the threaded post on the bottom (do not lay flat) that is an indicator that they are the real deal Slingerlands. But yeah - the tops are different - more like Slingerland cigar lugs from the 40s.

Mystery to me.....NICE though.

BTW - you can always use other easier to find/identify lugs and place them on the back of the drum - temporarily until you find matching lugs. Then it won't hold up a snare build.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

I agree! Cool styling, and the chrome is really nice looking and in great shape. The only thing that belies their MIJ cheapness is the little tiny backing screws.

I'll start checking around the shops in my town soon.
