Beverly Cymbals

Loading...

Hello,

I picked up this Beverly 12" Splash cymbal for $15 on ebay. I know these were made in England (by Premier?). The color and the profile are very similar to an Ajax cymbal I have, which was also made in England. Looks to be a Nickel Silver alloy.

It's obviously very thin and warped. The edges look like a Sound Edge or Master Sound Hi-Hat. It sounds quick and trashy, and is very low pitched with a soft attack, almost like hitting it with a timpani mallet instead of a stick.

Can someone tell me a little more about this? Check out the many hammer marks on the underside. Was this standard for this type of cymbal, or was a previous owner a Matt Bettis in training and did their own hammering? It has a smaller hole, so I believe it to be pretty old (early 60's or older??).

Thanks for your help.

Looks pretty much like a zyn cymbal from the early to late 60's as supplied with Premier drums. They were nickel silver too and also had those hammering marks, they then became zyn 2 star after around 1968.

Premier made Beverley kits so no doubt a range of budget cymbals were also supplied with them.

I collect zyn cymbals but tend to go for the super zyn or 5 stars as they are B20 alloy.

There are also standard quality zyns but they are a lot earlier and B10 alloy.

"............the drums and hardware were made on the Premier shop floor including the incredibly awful Krut cymbals (Turk spelled backwards), but amazingly, they sold like hot cakes in Holland and the USA.

Beverley paid Premier for making the sets and the two companies were kept quite separate. It is also thought that the 'crappy' Kruts were later re-named as Zyn cymbals, Zyns were totally different from Kruts (the lowest of the low), and were made entirely separately and from different base material.........
