Yep, although I'm partial to turquoise sparkle, I think Robyn is right. Purple sparkle would look very cool!

Those look like the kit I just bought. Thicker shells with the grey interiors and similar lugs. I was thinking about re-wrapping mine in red sparkle. My first real kit was in that finish that I bought back in the early 70's, I don't remember what kind it was, but I'm thinking it was probably an MIj kit. I payed $100 and it came with a Zildjian ride. That was a lot of money for a teenager back then, I remember working all summer to buy that kit.

Anyway, I'm not crazy about purple sparkle, that Slingerland you re-wrapped in the blue sparkle looks cool, that would be my vote.

I agree with johnnyringo - I'd try to match that blue in the bass hoop inlay.

I don't quite understand why some don't like these old MIJ kits, to me, they sound every bit as good as any vintage kit I've owned and that's all that really matters. Besides, you can re-wrap or upgrade the hardware and you don't have to worry about devaluing the kit.

That's true, I could do the blue sparkle / glitter. The Slingerland's did come out looking killer. I think they get a bad rap because they were budget, and because modern budget drums are horrid, people make assumptions. I'd rather have a MIJ than any of the low end Tama / Pearl kits with 6 lug floor toms that are 16".

I had a lot of fun re-doing these MIJ kits. They are all long gone now. Might give you some ideas.

All the low end kits these days are made in Taiwan. I don't even like the ones using maple shells. I think the MIJ kits were not only made to look like American drums, but to sound like them.
