That's exactly what I said when I saw what I did. Bugger, I was enjoying that!! It's very unfulfilling to have to call it a day and walk away because I've only gone and buggered the whole thing up. It's sitting there, looking very sad. I'll probably have to put some MIJ triple flange hoop on it. Nothing but the best for this snare.

You might check with a local machine shop and see what they can do. Fixing the crack not that hard to do. There should be very little stress on the repair as long as no one tries to push in the wrong direction..................

Chroming might be another story for cost. But getting another one will be a long process most likely.

Shop might be able to make a new one perhaps?

Some of mine are somewhat out of round. The nice thing is the clips that hold them are pretty forgiving. What I normally do it put the hoop and head on the shell. Put in clips and t rods leave very loose. I squeeze in carefully the 2 sides that hang out. And with your third hand (:D) tighten t rods till snug and won't move. It's not a perfect fix but does get the hoops a bit more square on the head collar. Should be easy to have it welded up. Can always have both hoops nickle plated again. Or are they chrome?

Yes, this is pretty much exactly as I have been doing. At one stage I had the head on there very lopsided and I was getting wrinkles on one side that I had to overcompensate the tuning for those lugs. Just looking at the drum I could see that some rods were down further than the others because I had to crank those ones up. I think it's a bit better now. The batter side hoop is fine, but the reso is a bit out. The hoop itself didn't actually snap completely. It just cracked at the seam and has become very weak at that point so I don't like to try bend it anymore. The reso head has that snare gate which is probably part of the reason they go out or round. It seems OK for the moment. As much as I enjoy tinkering around with old drums I think I'll leave well enough alone with this one.

Sound advise. I'll just leave it as it is and quit messing around with it. It's on the drum now so I'll just leave it set up that way. It didn't snap completely, just cracked at the seam. It's hanging on by a thread.
