Any Olympic guys out there?

From R.Adam McHugh

Right, quoting myself now...Just home from a gig where I used this drum. Great ring on the rim shots, big and brassy. Loved that, but not sure if I like the sound when hit in the centre. Has a kind of thin sound and a bit tinny and rattley, which doesn't sound like the right way to describe a wood shell snare, but I think I need to tweak it more. DaddyNowhere, could you show me pic of the snare beds on yours? I'm wondering if I should do something there. All I can say at this point is not bad. Not good, but not bad. More work required, methinks...

Fair enough, sometimes it takes a long time to get it sounding just right, so I get where you're coming from.I used brushes quite a bit last night, and the sound wasn't bad. The sticks didn't do it for me however, but then I've only just started using this drum, so looks like there's a lot more work ahead! Thanks for sharing though, you've got a really nice kit!

I've got a Pioneer like that - never could get a sound I liked out of it. Suppose it depends what you're looking for.

Hello folks, I enjoy playing my Olympic by Premier drums from the 1970's as marketed and sold by Selmer USA.

Here are a few photo's from my orphan kit, purchased on ebay. The 14x20 and 8x12 were found in a storage locker with guitars and drum stands. The gentleman who listed the drums was the winning bidder at auction. The sale of the contents paid the storage rental fees. I was informed by Dave Seville from the UK that these drums were never offered in the European market. I purchased the tom arm from Dave.

The floor tom was from an abused kit I purchased this past summer. It is wrapped in the main color tone of the other two as no digital printer can duplicate the Premier shimmer look. I purchased the Olympic chrome snare drum in early spring 2014.

Sorry about that; I just found my flash drive.

The sizes are 20" bass drum, 16x15" floor tom and 8x12. The snare is 5.5x14 8 lug Olympic by Premier I purchased via eBay.

I have a nice old 82 model snare, foil badge, six lugs. Never much warmed to it till someone suggested I throw a diecast on top. I found a John Grey 6 hole die cast and the sound was reeled in to my liking. I mostly use it for rehearsals, haven't gigged it in years. (Generic triple flange hoops in pic)

Here's a 1951 Olympic model 1151W. (W for white)

This one is the 5.5" version with a white lacquer over brass shell.

Patrick and Stedi, two very pretty drums! Love the different lug designs over the thirty year age difference here. Mine is from the mid 60s and the lugs have a definite old school Premier vibe going on. Still mucking around with the sound though, and will gig it again soon, that's for sure.

I also love the badges you guys have! Mine is kinda dull in comparison...

Very nice indeed!! Do you reckon the 6 lugger holds it own against the 8?
