Vintage Ludwig question

Loading...

I've noticed some vintage Ludwig toms have the muffler mounted right above the blue/olive badge and was wondering what year these are from. You don't see them very often, but I've seen them a few times. Most of them are 3-ply with natural interiors, but I've also seen them on some Vistalites. WHY did they do that?

They moved the badge under the muffler so you can mount the drum either left handed or right handed and it will look the same from the front view. I think it started about 1974.

Oh, okay. That makes sense, although I don't really care for the way it looks at all. Thanks for the info guys.

My 1972 Ludwig jazzette had the muffler on the 12 one panel away from the muffler going back. Never really noticed that before. I also have a 1970 Ludwig and the mufflers are in the back like 60's drums. 1974-5 sounds about right for mufflers under the badge.
