Sounds better when it's free. :)
Street-found MIJ Tempo floor
This just reminded me of a guy I know who found a set of drums in a skip being chucked out. He brought them home and gave me a call and whatever way he said it it sounded like he was offering them to me for free. Hey I found a drum kit and thought of you, wanna come out and have a look? Something like that. so I go all the way over there and tell him it's a Pearl Export and it's in rough shape, not worth a lot of cash. I would have still taken them, but he never even offered them to me for free which is the only reason I went there in the first place. That's what you call a lousy friend. :D
Hoshino would be my vote as well

Ha ha! The rotten swine...DOH
A free drum that's playable is always a good drum. As far as ID goes, I think the rest of the guys have nailed it with Hoshino. I'd say keep it as a player, good sounding drums as long as the bearing edges are in good condition.

Thanks for all the input, Gentlemen. It's a nice looking drum, and I like the wrap. Might clean it up and take it for a test drive. Need another FT mount though... And yes, free is always good! Cheers!
Big week for finding FT's in Sydney town.. scored a Yammy earlier in the week...
According to Ralf this should be a Star brand... as are all with the "Worlds Supreme Quality" motto...
Cheers

Yeah, I saw that. I think you won though, that's a very nice drum. Good score!
The metal oval badge Tempo drums were Star
Pearl had drum kits badged as both Tempo and Tempro
although the former was seldom seen compared to the latter
my best guess would be Pearl changed the Tempo at some point to Tempro perhaps to avoid a conflict with Star
later once the thin foil sticker type badges showed up
Star was pretty much out of the stencil kit market
a market that was still very active leaving only Pearl and Hoshino
It was the musical instrument distributors
who went to both of the remaining two companies to build the kits
and apply the badge labels formerly used by Star
accordingly to fulfill some continued demand by the music retailers
One example is Stewart a popular and well known Star stencil
metal oval shaped badge with World's Supreme Quality motto
Once Star vacated the market the Stewart kits were then supplied by Pearl
the oval badge though similar at a glance ,was now just a foil sticker
And the World's Supreme Quality motto was dropped
In the case of R.Adam McHugh's sweet curbside find
it is a Hoshino made drum with a foil re-pop "Star version" Tempo badge
