Street-found MIJ Tempo floor

Loading...

I have a bass player mate who to me is the king of finding drums on the street, chucked out. He's given me quite a lot of odd drums over the years, some good some rubbish. I've just got home from a gig with him tonight and he laid this floor tom on me when I got there. If I'm not mistaken it's BDP, and the wrap is in almost reasonable nick. Don't know about the brand Tempo, but looks and feels similar to a Maxwin I have that's the same size, 16 x 16". A few cracks in the wrap, splits in the leg mounts (one is missing), and quite a bit of rust on the hoops and tension rods.

Anyone have any info on Tempo drums? I do quite like the look of the lugs and think it's actually quite an attractive drum, but maybe that's just because of the wrap. MIJ experts, what are your thoughts? Not sure what to do with it, maybe parts? Is it worth saving as a player piece?

My stupid iPad won't let me post all the pics at once, so I might have to upload one by one in separate entries. Apologies folks!

Haven't taken the heads off yet, it's 1 in the morning here in Siddly, and I'm too knackered to do it right now. More info as it comes in and again sorry for the multiple posts. Feckin' iPad, mutter, mutter...

Thanks guys,

Trev,

I have a set of Tempos but, my badges are stamped "Tempo...World Supreme Quality...Made in Japan". The stamps also have a black background and are roughly the same oval shape. They were a stencil of Star. USUALLY, the words "World Supreme Quality" points to Star. I believe, though not positive, that Tempros were made by Pearl. Hope this helps a bit.

Appears to be Hoshino from the hardware. I wouldn't expect much upon removing the heads - typical Luan, and bearing edges optional apparently, (judging from recent posts). Nice looking drum, and could probably sound decent, but otherwise, nothing special I think.

Thanks lads, you've basically confirmed what I first thought. I'll take it to bits and make further evaluations before making a decision about using it or not.
